Temperature Management

Bonsai Temperature Care Guides
Bonsai Temperature Management Reference

Because bonsai roots live in shallow containers above ground, they lack the ground insulation of landscape trees. Reference these threshold tables to protect your trees from freezing winter temperatures and intense summer root baking.

1. Bonsai Cold Limits / Indoor Bring-In Thresholds

Ordered from highest threshold (least frost tolerant) to lowest threshold (most cold hardy). Tropical and sub-tropical trees must enter warm living spaces or greenhouses, while temperate species require cold dormancy (32°F–45°F) in an unheated garage or shed.
